A private educational institution from Indore has set a record in the Guinness Book for the ‘Largest Backward Walk’ by breaking the previous record set in 2012 in Shanghai (China).
The institute received certification in this regard on Friday evening from Guinness Book of Records office.
Indore’s Prestige Institute of Management and Research (PIMR) had attempted this record on March 2, 2014.
PIMR’s head Entrepreneur Cell Dr Punit Kumar Dwivedi said that 1107 persons including students, institute staff, administrative officers and locals has successfully completed the backward walk of one km in 20 minutes in the record breaking effort.
The effort was part of entrepreneurship cell’s initiative Aagaz.
For remembering the glorious history of India which boasts of series of innovations, various tableau were set up in the walk track, depicting different inventions and discoveries ending with the tableau displaying discovery of ‘zero’ by great mathematician Aryabhatt, he said.
All the participants were required to walk backwards without looking back even for once and 100 participants also were disqualified in the process, institute spokesperson Raju John said.
Till now, the bizarre record—as it might sound to many-was held by a group from Shanghai (China).
A total of 1,039 people had walked backwards on June 10, 2012 to set the record for "largest backwards walk."
It took place in Shanghai and was organized by Infinitus Company Ltd.
