How many Indians or even in Tamil Nadu know about this "World carrom Champion"....???? Afterall Indians are the fantastics fellows of Corporate Cricket & even forget the National Game Hockey. Then how can they know about her...??? Chanceless...!
She is nothing else I.Ilavazhagi, a Dalit who won women’s title in the 5th World carrom Championship in France in 2008 & also a two time World Cup winner. She hails from Vyasarpadi on the outskirts of north Chennai. Her father Irudhayraj who drives a motorised fish cart & supports the family with his meagre income & mother Selvi, a homemaker. Tamil Nadu has produced four world champions. Among four, three are from Dalits including her.
ACHIVEMENTS;
*) 5th World Carrom Champion on 2008, France.
*) Women's singles title at the 38th senior National carrom championships in Visakhapatnam on 2009.
*) Women's singles title in the 37th National carrom championship in Chennai on 2008.
*) 13th SAARC Carrom championship women’s doubles with Rashmi Kumari in 2009.
*) The two time SAARC champion including Women's Singles title in 2009.
*) World Cup winner in 2006.
*) Asia Cup.
