Visvesvaraya Technological University most Googled in Bengaluru
Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, has dethroned Bangalore University (BU) as the educational institution that was most searched this year in Bengaluru, as far as Google search trends go.
VTU, one of the largest technological varsities in the country, made it to the top of the list it was not even part of last year.
According to Google Zeitgeist 2014, VTU managed to get most Internet surfers in Bengaluru. However, as per the policy of the company, the number of people who searched for it and the criterion for search were not revealed.
In the 2013 search trends, VTU had made it to the national search trends, becoming the only varsity from the State to be among the top searched educational institutions in the country.
But the varsity, which affiliates engineering colleges in the State, had failed to interest citizens in the Information Technology capital.
Reacting to the news, VTU Vice-Chancellor H. Maheshappa said the varsity had managed to attract the interest of students and companies – the main stakeholders of the university.
Others on the list
Apart from VTU, five other varsities were most searched by netizens in the city this year.
While BU slipped to the fourth spot this year, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, and University of Mysore were new entrants.
From last year, Karnataka State Open University and Christ University, Bengaluru, made it to the list again, albeit with a slight slip in rankings.
