Although Sidharth plays the lead role, Prithvi handles an equally important character. In the movie when Prithvi enacts an epic heroine on stage Sidharth plays the hero opposite to the character.

At the same time, when Prithvi plays the role of Krishna, Sidharth appears as Meera; both actors depict characters with a great scope for competitive performance. Vedika is casted as the heroine of the movie and Nazar handles another important character. Babu Antony is also lined up among the array of stars.

The plot is based on the true story of  K B Sundarambal and S G Kittappa who were stage artists and singers. Writer Jayamohan invited the attention of Vasanthabalan towards the life and story of the old music drama troupes.

There were some initial difficulties in getting a producer for this movie as it demanded a rather large  budget. Meanwhile, Vasanthabalan completed his movie ‘Aravaan’.  After that, when ‘Kaviya Thalaivan’ was being discussed again, S Sasikanth had agreed to produce it.

Vasanthabalan is the director of remarkable movies like ‘Veyil’ and ‘Angaditheruvu’. Several debut actors can be seen in the movie, starring beside Anaika Sothy, Thamby Ramayya and Ponvannan. The movie has about 20 big and small songs in it; 2 of which are penned by Vali.
