Musician Ravindra Jain passes away
Renowned music director Ravindra Jain, an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet, died here on Friday evening following a prolonged illness, an aide said.
Jain was 71. He breathed his last at Lilavati Hospital around 4.15 p.m.
Jain was shifted from Wockhardt Hospital in Nagpur a few days back to Mumbai by a chartered air ambulance for treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra. The music composer was suffering from a urinary infection causing a problem in his kidney, sources said.
He was in Nagpur for a concert on Sunday, but could not participate because of his ill-health and was subsequently airlifted to Mumbai. He was kept in the ICU at Lilavati and was on ventilator. He is survived by his wife Divya and son Ayush.
Ravindra Jain, who started his career in the early 1970s, carved a place for himself in the Hindi film music field overcoming the disability of blindness. He composed for over 100 Bollywood movies including Chor Machaye Shor (1974), Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Chitchor (1976), Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978), 'Nadiya ke Paar'(1982), and 'Vivah'(2006). Along with composing music, he also wrote the lyrics for many of his famous songs.
Jain composed music for three Malayalam movies -- Sujatha, Sukham Sukhakaram and Akashathinte Niram.
Ravindra Jain brought K J Yesudas to Hindi films. Together, they gifted music lovers memorable songs like 'Oo goriya re' (Naiyya), 'Beeti hui raat ki' (Ayyash), and 'Gori tera gaon' (Chitchor). In 1989, Jain composed the music under Yesudas's production house Tharangini Audios for the Malayalam album Aavanippoochendu.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Jain, saying he will be remembered for his "versatile music and fighting spirit."
Jain's funeral will be held tomorrow at a crematorium in suburban Mumbai. "The 'antim darshan' will be held on Saturday between 11 AM to 2 PM at Ajiwasan Hall, Juhu. The funeral will be held at 3 PM in Santacruz crematorium,"
