A Brief Report on Kerala Day:
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait celebrated Kerala Day on 15 Nov 2024 with a wide variety of programmes at Indian embassy auditorium. The Kerala State Formation Day, commemorated every year on November 01, marks the creation of the state of Kerala on the basis of the State Reorganisation Act, 1956.
A number of associations from the Malayali expatriate community showcased traditional, cultural and folk performances of their respective districts. The programme started with traditional chenda percussion with a pooram festival followed by traditional Kairali martial art Kalaripayattu and a ritual art form Theyyam. Other performances included, but were not limited to, Thiruvathira, Kerala Nadanam, Nadavili, Margam Kali, Duff Muttu, Kolkkali, Kolunth Song, Vallam Kali, Oppana, and Ghazal.
There were also skits and monologues introducing famous historical Kerala-based characters such as Maharaja Marthanda Varma, Pazhassi Raja , Kunjali Marakkar, Annie Mascarene, Dakshayani Narayanan , Ammu Swaminathan , and Herman Gundurt.
The Ambassador congratulated the community for having conducted a successful celebration and putting up stunning performances. Similarly, on November 08, the Embassy had also jointly celebrated the formation days of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with community associations from those states.
