Onam Celebration in Kuwait
1. The Embassy of India, Kuwait hosted an Onam celebration at the Embassy premises on 11 September 2026, in association with the Malayali community, to mark the festival and showcase Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.
2. The celebrations commenced with the lively beats of the traditional Chenda (percussion drum) accompanying a procession featuring Mahabali and participants dressed in traditional Kerala attire. A colourful array of cultural performances was presented by members of the Indian community at the Embassy Auditorium.
3. Pookalam (traditional floral arrangement) and Payasam-making (traditional South Indian sweet dish) competitions were also organised as part of the celebrations. The competitions witnessed enthusiastic and creative participation from members of the community.
4. Ambassador of India to Kuwait, H.E. Mrs. Paramita Tripathi, felicitated the winners of the Pookalam and Payasam-making competitions and appreciated the community’s efforts to showcase and celebrate Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
5. The event was organised by Malayali community associations in Kuwait, including Saradhi Kuwait, Nair Service Society, Bharatiya Pravasi Parishad Kuwait and Sevadarshan, in association with the Embassy of India.
6. The Embassy of India appreciates the efforts of the organisers and participants, whose contribution helped make the occasion a celebration of Kerala’s cultural heritage.
