Philanthropy of Ramadan

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) encouraged charitable initiatives and urged individuals and companies to contribute in humanitarian projects to help those in need inside Kuwait during Ramadan. This step reflects the civil society’s active role in Kuwait, which helps ensure that people are not forced to wait for government giving all the time.

The step is also an embodiment to article 25 of the Kuwaiti Constitution, which indicates that “the State shall ensure the solidarity of society in shouldering burdens resulting from public disasters and calamities.” The KRCS’s ‘food basket’ project targets families in need in Kuwait, and help draw the smile on their members’ faces. It goes without saying that such humanitarian and commendable efforts, including contributions from the private sector, are very important to help needy families.

I wish success for the ‘food basket’ idea; a pioneering project that companies fund in cooperation with the KRCS during Ramadan, especially that many people strive to do charity and provide food material necessary for iftar to people in need during the holy month. To prepare for that project, the KRCS carried out a survey based on an official database, which revealed that there are many families in need in Kuwait.

The project is trustworthy, and guarantees to donators that their charity will reach those in need. Ramadan give us an exceptional opportunity to do selfreflection, improve social collaboration, and help those in need. It is the perfect time of the year to focus on reviving social responsibility, and reach out to all social categories.

We hope that other non-profit organizations would follow suit, in order to improve cooperation between all social categories, which is an original Kuwaiti tradition, the same as humanitarian work.
