An App that seeks to promote women’s safety

Korattur resident creates an application with 13 features.

Just click a button and your family will know where you are. In case of an accident, you can connect to 108. The police control room will be alerted in case you are in trouble. These are some of the features of an application developed by Sandeep Charles, a resident of Korattur, for promoting women’s safety.

The App has been launched after working on it for two years.

“The idea struck me after many gang rape cases hit the headlines. I wanted to develop an App that would help women in case they were in danger,” says Sandeep, a website developer.

Calling it a tool that would help women stay safe, Sandeep says the ‘Eve Safe android mobile’ App has around 13 features. “This includes tracking option, where a family member can track the exact location of a woman. Also, it has features such as fake call and police whistle, which can scare away a stalker,” he says.

Once connected via GPS, all services near a person can be found on the App, including hospitals, pharmacies, police stations and petrol bunk. “The App has some 20 safety tips for women,” says Sandeep. But, one of the best features of the App is the self-defence videos it provides. “There are four videos on self defence techniques for women. It shows how to escape if someone is trying to choke you and it also presents moves that could be used to incapacitate an attacker,” he says.

The App can be downloaded free from Google Play Store.
