Summers heat sometimes become so unbearable that walking out of home becomes next to impossible. Due to scorching heat outside people tend to spend most of their times indoors with air conditioners. People wear light clothes, light colors, last but not least people try to consume foods that can keep their body cool internally. During summers risk of food poisoning also increases. Fried food contains excess oil which effects our digestion. During summers the digestion of processed foods also becomes difficult and creates undue stress to our digestives system, so there should be an awareness what foods should be included and avoided in our diet during summers.

  • Inclusion of seasonal fruits in diet

Dehydration, skin burn, lack of sleep and tiredness are the common problems during summers. So include seasonal fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, jackfruits, pineapple, varieties of ripe mangoes and cashew apple in your diet. It can replace water and it keeps our body cool and provides important nutrients. Add 10-12 glasses of water in your daily routine.

  • Include liquid diet

During summers sweating is the common problem among people. Due to sweating all the important minerals from our body leaches out. So in order to compensate this, we should include more liquids in our diet, such as tender coconut water, buttermilk, melon juices. Cucumber juices and salads will be the great option.

  • Diet

  • During summers breakfast should be light and healthy. Avoid high starchy foods with rice and wheat.

  • Lunch should be the heaviest meal of the day during summers. Keep low on yoghurt consumption and drink more of buttermilk.

  • Add green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits in diet. It can be taken in the form of milk shakes, smoothies and salads.

  • Include cooling herbs such as fennel, dill, mint, and coriander. Allow use of spices like cumin, cinnamon, green cardamom in your food. Use vegetables such as white pumpkin, broccoli, snake gourds, drumstick and bottle gourds.

  • During summers you should take extra care of your hairs. So include protein rich food in diet.

  • Take small meals throughout the day.

  • Exercise

Exercise should be included in daily routine. It helps in detoxifying our body and improves our digestion.

Things to be avoided during Summers

Avoid spicy food

  • Avoid using spices such as chilli, mustard and ginger. Avoid vegetables like garlic and peppers.

  • Avoid Sauces

Keep distance from cheese sauces. Instead of sauces fresh tomato, raw mango and coconut chutneys can be included.

  • Avoid aerated drinks and Ice creams

Chilled water and aerated drinks helps us to give instant relief. But it disrupts our digestive process. Keep a close watch on your sugar consumption. Ice creams, though tempting, are rich in sugar and cream, so avoid it. But an iced fruit lolly would be a legitimate indulgence.
