Best Teacher Presidential Award Winner

 

Mrs. Shantha Maria James, The Principal of Indian Central School Abbasiya,President of IndianFrontliners and the former chairperson of CBSE Schools Gulf Council is a great leader and the winner of thirty other International and National awards received the Best Teacher Award on 5th Sep 2013 form H.E. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honorable President of India.
 
This prestigious and the top most award for the outstanding teachers of India and teachers teaching in Indian schools abroad was presented on the occasion of Teacher’s Day Celebration conducted by Human Resource Development and Department of School Education and Literacy of India Government. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju and the Ministers of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. Shashi Tharoor and Shri Jitin Prasada were some of the eminent dignitaries present in this occasion.
 
It was a proud moment for the NRI teachers who also dedicate their efforts to develop the future citizens of India away from the country. Management, parents, staff and students of ICS feel proud and congratulate their beloved principal, who glosses with the stars of Indian excellence in teaching horizon.

With the three A’s – Arise, Awake and   Astir, Mrs. Shantha Maria James, Principal of Indian Central School, Kuwait propels until her goal is reached. For in her shines the light of purpose, a natural sense of onus for the budding generation.
 
Born and brought up in Chennai she rose to heights blessed with harmony in abundance. She is a M.A., M.Ed and M.Phil in English; she is trained in Montessori, Abacus and Advanced Training in Bharat Scouts and Guides. She has done special learning from HRD, NIPCCD, New Delhi. She underwent young learners English and Main Suit English from British Council. She has done Teaching English as a foreign language from U.K. At present she is doing her Ph.D in Education. Reflecting in her disposition is commitment, resources, ethos of love, harmony in her rapport and relationship with her associates and the institution she works for as Principal – The Indian Central School.
 
She joined as Principal in Indian Central School Kuwait in 2006. She is proud to state that the strength of Astir the school which was 2500 at the time of her taking up the assignment is now 4700.Her hardwork and efficiency has been recognized and presently she is the Secretary cum Chairperson of the Council of Schools in the Gulf. She is also the Chairperson of the Throwball Association – Kuwait and member of the Indian Women’s Association in Kuwait. In her leisure time she organizes and takes groups of children to visit the physically and mentally challenged organizations in Kuwait and many more such services that are possible. Her prayer, her dream to ignite the sparks and inculcate optimism, team spirit, verve under her administration and guidance in the entire family of the institution has been spectacular in deed. In all sundry flows her gentility, humility round the clock, for such is the zenith of passion, devotion and zest for her profession.
 
She has rendered her services as Principal, Vice
Principal, Senior Mistress, Co-ordinator and Teacher at popular residential and Day boarding schools in India and in Kuwait. She had the privilege of being with two schools from it’s inspection as Principal. All through her career of 26 years, she has given paramount importance to a healthy environment at schools. She believes that education is kindling of a flame and not mere acquisition of knowledge. She reinforces the fact that to shape an individual it is easier to mould and nip at the bud rather than regretting later ignoring the foundation.
 

Awards and Appreciation received by her:The veritable proof of her magnanimous multifaceted talent is apparent from her signification, active, vibrant role in both sports and extra-curricular activities. She has been an athlete and played all the games right from Cricket, Kabbadi, and Volleyball in State and Regional Level to Chess, Track and Field events. She has been a Shakesphere student too for she participated in both Hindi and English in Elocution, Versification, Essay, Quizzing, Dance, Music and Skit. A walking sunshine of Cheer, Humility, Samaritan, Attitude and Compassion is observed through her involvement in Social work to an appreciable degree. Her free time was woven working on the growth, progress of women and children in rural areas while in India. She feels that women need to come out of their cocoon, be independent and face the challenges in the world with courage.
                                                                              

        
·         In 2001, she received Rotary International Award and she had the privilege of a trip to 
California,
 U.S.A, as a Rotary Educational Ambassador.
·         In 2003, recipient of Doctor Jayalalitha Award in TamilNadu for contributing towards education in rural areas.
·         In 2005, received the Best Principal Award by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in Namakkal District, TamilNadu. The same year she also won   the award for best performance by Lion’s Club.
·         In 2006, she was honoured with “Shakespeare Award” by Shakespeare Academy in Chennai for encouraging and motivating the students to improve the English Language. 
·         In 2008, she was appreciated and honourned by The Ministry of Electricity and Water, Kuwait.
·         In 2009, she was honoured by INJAZ –Kuwait with the Principal Award.
·         In 2010, she received appreciation and honour from The Ministry of Islamic Studies.
·         In 2011, The Ministry of Education, Kuwait presented her with an appreciation certificate for her contributions.
 
She is a repertoire of knowledge and a powerhouse of talent. It is her inherent talent that has resulted in her programmes being telecasted in Doordharshan, interviews in the local channels and conducting a live four week programme on Education in local channels in India. She is married to work. Profession is her passion. With it is the influx of will power thereby making the impossible possible. She was involved in both attending and conducting workshops and seminars at USA, Singapore, India and Gulf countries. She has penned on study materials in English and workbooks for Kindergarten, Work Cards in English and Social Studies at all levels.
 
Her Success is attributal to her strong close knitted family that is a balanced salad of virtues in right proportion. Her towering support is none other than her husband, Mr. James, Ex Scientist from Hyderabad. Her daughter Nancy, was always known as the topper in Academics. Her model, Son in-law, Karthik has been evergreen in his source of strength and support. She is proud of her grandson, Mittu haloes & hues in shades illuminating her.
 
Her close friends and other family members have always been a great support and strength in all her achievements. She is very grateful to God for having blessed her to bring her dream to reality and vision to shape in life. She fervently wishes that she has the undying strength coupled with blessings of the Supreme Power to make her contribution worthwhile to the society.
