The problems of Kuwait International Airport continues..
The problems of Kuwait International Airport continue after struggling for one year and a half due to travel restrictions in view of the coronavirus pandemic, reports Al-Rai daily. The recent decision of the Council of Ministers to ban unvaccinated citizens from traveling resulted in the reduction of the number of passengers departing from the airport by one third of the previous number. Operations Department Director at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Mansour Al-Hashimi told the daily that 63 flights with a total of 6,136 passengers departed on May 20 and 21. After the implementation of the abovementioned decision, the number of passengers decreased by 47% on May 22 and 23 — a total of 4,138 passengers.
He added the number of arrival flights decreased from 62 with 1,900 passengers on May 20 and 21 to 44 flights with 1,410 passengers on May 22 and 23. He said the coronavirus pandemic, which led to the cancellation of many flights and reservations, along with strict health regulations in some countries, did not prevent those wishing to spend their vacation outside the country. He affirmed the DGCA is keen on implementing the decisions and circulars of the Council of Ministers and follow the procedures specified by health authorities as these are in the interest of everyone. He revealed Kuwait International Airport is still operating at 10 percent capacity, and all flights are for citizens and their first-degree relatives only. He added the expatriates are still prohibited from entering the country except those excluded by the Corona Emergency Committee as follows: medical personnel and those employed at Kuwait oil companies, judiciary, and the Legal Advice and Legislation Department.--- A.T
