 The 44th Annual Sports Meet of ICSK – An Exuberant Celebration

Since its inception on 5th May 1959, ICSK has been rendering yeoman service to the Indian Diaspora by providing excellent education exclusively for Indian children. For the past 44 years, the institu-tion has been acknowledging the development of the students in sports activities through the An-nual Sports Meet, which is a tradition that has inspired forty-four generations to chase their dreams and live their best lives. The planned celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee Year of ICSK has made expectations to rise for the athletes.

The meet took off on the morning of 29th of November 2018 at the Kaifan Stadium which was charged with the zealous energy of the athletes who were anticipating the three-day event. Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahiman was the chief guest for the opening day. He inaugurated the event by releas-ing balloons. He also gave a speech where he spoke about his college days, when he was an active cricket player. The events of the first day started under the guidance of Dr. Nins Peter (HOD of Physical Education). The programme started by invoking the blessings of the Almighty as the whole stadium bowed their heads to the recitation of the Islamic Prayer. This was followed by the Na-tional Anthem of Kuwait. Mrs. Sherly Dennis rendered the welcome speech where she also re-minded the students about how sports helped in teaching the students about the importance of winning and losing.
Mr. Amer Mohammed graced the event as the Chief Guest on the second day. The spectators witnessed the exemplary performances of both children and parents as all of them enthusiastically took part in the event, making it an unforgettable episode in their lives.

With the sincere efforts of ten Physical Education teachers, four branches of Indian Community School participated in the event, where the students of grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 took part. A new segment for the participation of parents in sports was introduced and the competition items included 100m race for men and women and short-put. The 100m race was also open for teachers.

On 1st December 2018, the third day of the sports event being the prize distribution ceremony, the event commenced with the Islamic Prayer and the Prayer Song, followed by the national anthems of Kuwait, Kenya and South Africa. The Ambassador of Kenya to Kuwait, H. E. Mr. Ali Abbas Ali was the chief guest for the event, the CEO of Pro-Vision Sports Management, Mr. Ahmed Alhuzami was the guest of honor and the Ambassador of South Africa to Kuwait, H. E. Mr. Mzolisa Bona was the special guest. The occasion was graced by the presence of Chairman to the Board of Trustees Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahiman , Principals Dr. V. Binumon ,Mr. Rajesh Nair, Mr. Gangadhar and Vice Principals of all four branches. An invocation song enthralled all those who were present in the stadium. Principal and Senior Administrator of the school Dr. V Binumon rendered the welcome speech, where he also spoke about the importance of sports in the lives of students, and how it’s an inevitable part of education. A powerful dance performed by the students of ICSK enthralled the gathering, succeeded by the lighting of the lamp. The event was hosted by the Sports Coordi-nator and Principal of ICSK Junior Mrs. Sherly Dennis. The Chief Guest, H. E. Mr. Ali Abbas Ali ad-dressed the audience where he congratulated ICSK for conducting such vivacious events which encouraged the young students. He appreciated the efforts of all the conductors of the pro-gramme and also commented on the impressive performances of the students. 

The much-anticipated award ceremony occurred next, where the winners of the National and CBSE Cluster meets – the new meet record-holders, CBSE individual champions, students selected for the Kuwait Cricket team and Mr. Aftaab Kallan (on the occasion of being selected for training in football in Manchester) were awarded.
An excellent performance with a very deep meaning – “Save Water, Save Life”, by the students of ICSK Junior served as an intermission for the award ceremony which was resumed after that where the winners of CBSE Cluster: Athletics, Chess and Badminton where awarded.

After another performance by the students of ICSK Amman which instilled a sense of patriotism among the gathering, the awards for CBSE Cluster: Football, Swimming, Basketball and Table-Tennis were distributed.
This was followed by a dance performance by the students of ICSK Khaitan, which was succeeded by the Inter Branch Award Ceremony for classes of KG to grade 3.

A group dance by the students of ICSK Senior enchanted the crowd. This was followed by the In-ter Branch Award Ceremony for students of grade 4 and 5.

After another Bollywood dance performance by the talented students of ICSK Junior, the award ceremony for the Inter Branch Basketball and Badminton commenced.

The award ceremony for the Inter Branch: Table-tennis and Chess followed next after which there was another performance by the team from ICSK Amman, which was rendered as a tribute to a legend. This was succeeded by the award ceremony for the Inter Branch Competitions: First posi-tion was awarded to the Khaitan branch, L.KG to Class 2, Class 3 to Class 5 Junior bagged first posi-tion, Under 14 , 17 & 19 (boys & girls) led with first position. Aftaab Kallan was awarded the best sportsperson of the year (boy) Senior Branch and Nissy Benny (girl) the best sportsperson of the year, Khaitan branch. First position for ‘Best House’ was awarded to Leaders and ‘Winners ‘won the second place. Students under 10 categories namely, L.K.G to class 2 (boys & girls), Class 3 to 5 ( boys & girls) , U-14 ( boys & girls), U- 17 ( boys & girls) U-19 ( boys & girls) received awards. A dance performance by a group of talented young students from ICSK Khaitan left the crowd spellbound.

The award ceremony for the Inter Branch: Athletics – Under 19 commenced next, where the win-ners for the Best Sportsperson of the Year, the Inter House Individual Champions for all the 4 schools, the Inter Branch Category Wise Winners, the Best House Runners and the Best House Winners were also awarded. As many as 867 Prizes were distributed. This was followed by the award ceremony for parents and teachers.

The curtains closed on this year’s annual event with the vote of thanks from Mr. Rajesh Nair (Prin-cipal of ICSK Amman) and with a solemn resolve and high expectations for the 45th year of ICSK Sports.
