Bhavans IES Conducts a Session on ‘You Are What You Eat’

With the intention of educating the students about nutrients and healthy eating habits, the Department of Science of Indian Education School, Kuwait, arranged a session on the topic, ‘You Are What You Eat’, as part of ‘Meet the Expert’ series for the students of the school. A proficient nutritionist, Ms. Niranjana Rajendran, Consultant Nutritionist, HealthifyMe Wellness, Bangalore, India, addressed the students of Grades 4 and 5 on Sunday, 23rd May 2021 at 10 a.m. on Zoom Platform.

The session began with a prayer song by Anagha Suraj of 4A. Dhwani Santi Nair of 5E welcomed the virtual gathering. The guest speaker, Ms. Niranjana, enlightened the students with her excellent presentation on healthy eating habits. She talked about the core components of a food pyramid and the servings of each food group to be consumed daily. She emphasized that healthy students are more engaged, alert, and better equipped to concentrate and learn. She discussed the ways to improve the immunity of the body by giving the recipes of some common concoctions used in Indian households. She made the students know about the common lifestyle diseases and the food items to be avoided for a healthy body. The resource person also gave examples of prebiotics and probiotics to be included in the diet for healthy guts. Attaining knowledge about nutrition and healthy eating from a practising nutritionist empowered the students with the skills to adopt healthier, sustainable food choices and eating patterns. After the presentation, there was an interactive session and all the students enthusiastically cleared up the doubts that lingered in their minds regarding healthy eating practices.

Mr. T Premkumar, Principal, IES, in his closing thoughts, advised the students to follow the instructions given by the resource person, Ms. Niranjana, and follow a balanced diet. He also encouraged the students to exercise regularly, drink enough water, take proper rest, and to avoid junk food. The session came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Alvin Viljo of 4A.
