INDIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, MANGAF HOLDS ITS MAIDEN DEBATE COMPETITION

IMG 7973 11zonThe days of preparation, hard work and determination paid off with imminent success on the evening of the 5th and 6th of May 2023, when India International School, Mangaf hosted its maiden competition ‘Battle with Words’, Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji Memorial Inter-School Debate competition in its school premises. Young and talented debaters from around 13 CBSE schools in Kuwait participated and showcased their skills on the topic, ‘Is Media Truly Independent?

On May 5th, the program was graced by the presence of esteemed Guest N. K. Premachandran, Member of Parliament, and his spouse Geetha Premachandran, honourable guest, Dr. M. K. Muneer, Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, and his spouse Mrs. Nafeesa Muneer. Additionally, there was a panel of esteemed judges, Advocate Rajesh Sagar, a legal consultant for Kuwait Airways, Mr. Sajeev K Peter, Editor of the Kuwait Times, Mr. Reaven D'Souza, Editor of The Times Kuwait, Special guest, Mr. Mohamed Hisham -Pace Group Representative, Director- Malayil Moosa Koya, Principal- K.V. Indulekha, Vice-Principal -Saleem Kundungal, Head Mistress -Sridevi Neelakannan, and Coordinators, Mrs Najiyah Kader, Mrs. Prema Balasubramanyan, and Mr. Shihab Nilgiri, esteemed parents, teachers and students.

The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Hassan of class XII, invoking the blessings of the almighty. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthems of Kuwait and India. Principal K.V. Indulekha then delivered the welcome address to all the dignitaries of the day. After this, Mr. Shihab Nilgiri, the coordinator of the event, briefed the participants on the rules and regulations of the competition before commencing.

The debate competition was truly amazing, as the young aspiring debaters were infused with the spirit of debating and rebuttal. Their arguments were well-structured and thought-provoking, and it was impressive to see them hold their ground in the face of tough questions and challenges. The judges played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the debate competition, skillfully evaluating and comparing the performances of all the participants, taking into account various factors such as content, delivery, style, and rebuttal. They had to make difficult decisions while ensuring that they remained objective and unbiased throughout the evaluation process. Additionally, the judges had to provide constructive feedback to the participants, highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement, to help them enhance their debating skills. The judges then declared the results.

 

Ms. Fida Ancy of Indian Educational School, Bhavans was declared as The Debate Champion followed by Ms. Neha Annmary Saiju of United Indian School as the Runner-Up. Furthermore, the remarkable performers were also declared

Vice-Principal, Saleem Kundungal proposed a vote of thanks to all the organizers, students from the 13 CBSE schools, and their accompanying teachers for their coordination and support in executing the Debate competition. He expressed his gratitude for their contributions, which helped bring the event to a successful conclusion.

The evening of 6th May 2023 was a memorable and exciting one as Seminar and Prize Distribution of the Dr. P.A Ibrahim Haji Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition took place. A galaxy of guests attended the program delightfully. Esteemed Chief  Guest N.K. Premachandran, Member of Parliament, and his spouse Geetha Premachandran, Honourable Guest of Honour, Dr. M.K. Muneer, Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, and his spouse Mrs. Nafeesa Muneer, Special guest Mr. Adil Ibrahim ,S/O our beloved Founder Chariman late Dr. P.A.Ibrahim Haji, Mr.Asif Mohammed -CEO PACE Group , Mr. Mohamed Hisham -Pace Group Representative,Founder Principal , Anees Ahmed, Director- Malayil Moosa Koya, Principal- K.V. Indulekha, Vice-Principal -Saleem Kundungal, Head Mistress -Sridevi Neelakannan, and Coordinators, Mrs Najiyah Kader, Mrs. Prema Balasubramanyan, and Mr. Shihab Nilgiri, esteemed parents, Proud winners of the Debate Competition,Teachers, students and last but not the least the Academic Achievers of the year 2021-22.

It was amazing to note that the Quran recitation was eloquently recited by Sheza Naushad of class 12 and its translation in English was given by BadarUnissa of class 12 followed by the Malayam version recited melodiously by Rohit.S. Nair, which was translated by K.Ragavan Nair. The countries' allegiance was honoured by singing the national anthems of Kuwait and India.

 Director Malayil Moosa Koya then delivered the welcome address, expressing his happiness in welcoming the esteemed dignitaries. He proudly announced the completion of 21 years of IISM and highlighted the significant role played by the founder chairman late Dr. P.A. Ibrahim Haji as an educationist, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. IISM was our founder chairman’s first school in Kuwait, and it's noteworthy to see the numerous schools in Gulf and India holding his signature.  Director Malayil Moosa Koya further proclaimed that IISM will continue to hold a Debate Competition every year under his name Dr. P.A Ibrahim Haji Memorial Debate Competition to uphold his legacy.

The next segment of the programme was a tribute paid to our beloved founder chairman. It started with the Arabic Department’s appraisal and honour. The teachers had shown their solidarity by singing the prayer song in Arabic.

The cynosure of the day was a prayer song in Malayalam sung melodiously by Rohit. S. Nair and team and its music composed by our Vice Principal, Saleem Kundungal. The Poem is written under the pen name Abu Iqbal, a senior media person in Kuwait Through this genre the poet has expressed and portrayed his intense feeling to express his gratitude to our beloved founder chairman. The poem was appreciated with an ovation given by the audience.

Following this was a tribute speech by Guest of Honour Dr. M. K. Muneer, a member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala, highlighting the contributions of Dr. P.A. Ibrahim Haji and commemorating his personal memories shared with him. Dr. P.A. Ibrahim Haji was remembered as a strict religious follower and a secular person who believed in humanity. Dr. M. K. Muneer considered him as his ‘Guru’ and quoted the India International School Mangaf as the best school in Kuwait because of the hard work and determination of our beloved founder chairman.

The video presentation displaying the timeline of accomplishments of our beloved founder Chairman was indeed mesmerizing to watch. His high-profile caliber spread over many regions in India and Gulf under different acclaimed titles like businessman, educationist, and philanthropist , and best Human Being and the list goes on , was commendable.

The Keynote address by esteemed Chief Guest, N. K. Premachandran, MP Kerala, left everyone spellbound. He began his speech by praising the late Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji as the ‘Best Human Being ‘,who was a strict follower of Islamic Ethics, a noble pious gentleman who had done a wonderful service to the humanity in terms of Charity.

Mr. N. K. Premachandran paid tribute to the loving memories of the founder Chairman for his exemplary contributions to society, which cannot be ignored. He congratulated and appreciated the beloved Director, Malayil Moosa Koya, for organizing the Debate Competition in the name of the founder chairman, Dr. P.A. Ibrahim Haji Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition, and for selecting the wonderful topic, "IS MEDIA TRULY INDEPENDENT?" He expressed his gratitude for being a part of the program and witnessing the competition and appreciated the winners as well as all the participants for their analytical skills. Furthermore, he highlighted the topic of freedom of speech and expression, which is the core of the Constitution. He motivated the students by emphasizing that in order to have unbiased media and to strengthen the democratic fabric of our country, we have to be united.

The last segment of the programme was the Prize distribution. The debate champions and runners-up were honoured with trophies, certificates, and sashes, while remarkable performers were presented with trophies by the Chief Guest, N. K. Premachandran, MP Kerala, and Guest of Honour Dr. M.K. Muneer, MLA, Kerala, as well as Director Malayil Moosa Koya, Principal K.V. Indulekha, and Vice-Principal Saleem Kundungal.

The academic excellence award of GOLD COIN, CERTIFICATE AND A MEMENTO was conferred upon the following by the esteemed guest Mr. Adil Ibrahim, S/O our beloved founder chairman Late Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji, Asif Mohammed, CEO PACE GROUP and Mr. Hisham PACE GROUP Representative.

As a token of gratitude and appreciation, our Chief Guest and Guest of Honour was presented with a memento by the esteemed guest Mr. Adil Ibrahim. The momentous occasion concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the event Coodinator Mr. Shihab thanking the dignitaries, esteemed guests, parents, winners and participants of the debate competition, the technical team and the media coverage team and last but not least, the whole IISM family.
