IES Organises a Webinar on Career as Company Secretary
Indian Educational School Bhavans, Kuwait, under the auspices of the Department of Commerce, conducted an informative online webinar on the career prospects of a Company Secretary (CS) on October 8, 2023. The webinar featured CS Shivani Sharma as its keynote speaker, an accomplished company secretary currently affiliated with Reliance Retail Ltd. Ms. Shivani is a graduate in Commerce and Law, with a consistent track record of academic excellence and a successful corporate career achieved at a very young age. She secured an All-India Rank (AIR) of 23 in CS Foundation and has previously worked at Bata India Ltd. The webinar was specifically designed for students in Grades 11 and 12 majoring in Commerce.
The session commenced at 5:30 pm with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Preethi K. Nair, the School Counselor. Following that, Mr. T. Premkumar, the Principal of IES Kuwait, provided an impactful introduction of the Chief Guest, leaving a positive and indescribable impression. The virtual podium was then handed over to the Guest Speaker, Ms. Shivani Sharma, who expressed her gratitude to her mentor, Mr. Susanth V, Head of the Department of Commerce at IES. She credited him with inspiring her to pursue this profession and giving her the opportunity to address the enthusiastic students of IES. Ms. Shivani passionately discussed various aspects of a career as a Company Secretary, including an overview of the responsibilities, job prospects, course versatility, as well as the merits and demerits of the profession.
CS Shivani Sharma effectively addressed the fundamental duties of a Company Secretary using engaging analogies and drawing anecdotes from her professional experiences. The session provided valuable insights into job prospects and explored various alternative career paths accessible after completing the CS course. Additionally, Ms. Shivani discussed different options regarding where to pursue a CS course, the universal validity of a CS degree, and strategies for success in CS examinations. Furthermore, she candidly shared her honest review of the CS profession, highlighting its merits and demerits, and concluded with a compelling argument in favor of this esteemed profession.
The webinar was both intuitive and interactive, with the podium open for students to satisfy their curiosity by asking questions. Students had inquiries about long-term job stability, career opportunities abroad, and the primary challenges they might encounter in their daily work as Company Secretaries. The session concluded with closing remarks from the Principal, who commended the speaker for her logical presentation of content, which comprehensively covered all aspects of the Company Secretary profession and highlighted the rigorous dedication required to excel in this field.
