Bhavans Smart Indian School Celebrates World Food Day with Global Cuisine Challenge
Food brings people together on different levels. It is the nourishment of the body and soul – Giada De Laurentiis.
Giada De Laurentiis captures a universal truth through her words. Food is a powerful force that connects people across cultures, beliefs, and borders. World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16th to raise awareness about hunger worldwide. This year’s theme, “Rights to food for a better life and better future,” emphasizes the importance of equitable access to food as essential for well-being and sustainable development.
The World Food Day celebrations at Bhavans Smart Indian School was a delightful and enlightening experience for students and faculty alike. The Science Department organized an ‘Interclass - World Cuisine’ competition for students of classes 6, 7, and 8, encouraging them to explore diverse culinary traditions from Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. Participants presented a variety of dishes with a focus on fireless cooking, health benefits, and creative presentations. They showcased impressive teamwork and research skills, wearing traditional attire from the countries they represented. The event was judged by Principal Mr. Mahesh Iyer, Senior Vice Principal Ms. Anselma Tessy Judeson, Primary Academic Coordinator Ms. Thushara Sanjeev, and Science HOD Ms. Rekha Raveendran. Their decisions were challenging due to the outstanding efforts and creativity displayed by all teams.
The competition highlighted the importance of equitable access to food while celebrating culinary diversity, inspiring students to understand food’s role in promoting cultural connection and sustainable development. This event truly embodied the spirit of World Food Day by uniting students in a shared appreciation for the nourishment food provides, both physically and culturally.
