In a spectacular display of intellect and strategy, Bhavans Kuwait recently hosted the Bhavans Rapid Chess Tournament 2024, an event that drew the brightest young chess enthusiasts from across Kuwait. Held at the Indian Educational School, the tournament was a grand celebration of mental agility, with over 180 eager participants from more than 20 schools coming together to compete in this exhilarating battle of wits.
Open to school children of all nationalities, the tournament featured three intense age categories: Under 11, Under 14, and Under 19. Each round was a thrilling contest of patience, foresight, and razor-sharp thinking, as young minds navigated the chessboard with tactical brilliance. The victors in each category earned their moment of glory:
Under 11 Category:
- 1st Place: Nehan Abdullah (SIS Cambridge Wing)
- 2nd Place: Patrick Riyan Pinto (ICSK)
- 3rd Place: Aagney Shiju (Gulf Indian School)
Under 14 Category:
- 1st Place: Mithilesh Ranjithkumar (Gulf Indian School)
- 2nd Place: Abel Joseph (United Indian School)
- 3rd Place: Mohammed Junaid Khan (Smart Indian School)
Under 19 Category:
- 1st Place: Mohnish Balamurugan (ICSK)
- 2nd Place: Nihal Saheer (ILOA)
- 3rd Place: Sudhanshu Muluku (American International School)
Adding to the excitement, the Best Young Female Award was proudly won by Saanvi Arora from Indian Educational School, Kuwait.
The day kicked off with an uplifting inaugural ceremony led by Mr. Mahesh Iyer, Principal of Smart Indian School, and was further energized by the presence of Ms. Anselma Tessy, Senior Vice Principal of Bhavans Kuwait. Chief Guest Mr. Anand Victor, Principal of Indian Educational School, commended the impressive talent on display and encouraged all participants to keep nurturing their skills. He presented the winners with trophies, cash prizes, and certificates, marking their hard-earned victories with well-deserved fanfare.
Behind the scenes, the tournament ran seamlessly thanks to the expertise of Chief Arbiter NA Anitha Rajendran, along with the strategic support of Mr. Ali from the Kuwait Chess Federation and Tournament Director Dr. Murugaiyan Subbarayalu. The Bhavans Kuwait Physical Education Department ensured flawless arrangements, making the event not just a competition but a celebration of young intellectual prowess.
Shri N. K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman of Bhavans Middle East and primary sponsor of the tournament, reaffirmed his dedication to fostering young talents through such initiatives. His message was echoed by the vice principals of the Indian Educational School, Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar and Mr. Binoy Mathew, as well as Headmistress Ms. Munneera Mammikutty, all of whom congratulated both participants and organizers for their exceptional work.
As the tournament came to a close, camaraderie and celebration filled the air, with each player taking home a participation certificate and a sense of accomplishment. Refreshments were provided throughout the day, keeping the young chess warriors energized and focused.
