Empowering Future Leaders: Bhavans Smart Indian School Hosts its Inaugural Model United Nations
The Smart Indian School's recent Model United Nations (SIS MUN) which was held on October 23rd and 24th, 2024, offered a transformative experience for students, cultivating leadership and a deep awareness of the United Nations’ operations. With an overarching goal to equip young minds for future global leadership, this event provided students with an understanding of world issues, enhanced by hands-on experiences in diplomacy, debate, and critical problem-solving.
Organized by the Social Science Department, the inaugural SIS MUN hosted 31 passionate participants across three distinct committees: the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC). Each committee addressed pressing issues, with DISEC and UNSC hosting 10 delegates each, while UNODC had 11 delegates. Every committee had two directors and one assistant director to facilitate proceedings, while a dedicated Secretary General Ms. Nifansa Arul from Grade 12 Aries led the entire event, exemplifying confidence and integrity.
Through open debates, students acted as representatives of various nations, presenting solutions to complex global challenges. The event not only enhanced the students’ understanding of international relations but also fostered skills in research, teamwork, public speaking, and negotiation.
