Once Upon a Costume: Celebrating Favorite Book Day in Storybook Style!
“Books are uniquely portable magic. Together we’ll lead our children to that magical land! "It's undeniable that a child’s reading skills are important to their success in school, work, and life in general. Books are an important resource for many people who have a keen interest in gaining knowledge on a variety of subjects. They have always been, and continue to be, vital to education. From the basics of learning to read leading to children being able to access the curriculum, through to developing a love for reading.
Reading helps in developing every child’s cognitive, social, and communication skills, making them very confident learners all through their years of education. It also kindles their imagination and stimulates their curiosity to use language as a tool to express their feelings. To promote and encourage reading habits among the young children, our kindergarten wing of IES, Bhavans celebrated Favorite Book Day with the fascinating costumes of the story characters.
On October 10th, 2024, our classroom celebrated Favorite Book Day, a vibrant event aimed at fostering a love for reading and encouraging creativity among students. Each student was invited to bring their favorite storybook, dress in a themed costume, and share a storytelling presentation about their chosen book. The event saw enthusiastic participation from all students. Each child brought a unique selection of books, ranging from classic tales to contemporary favorites. The themed costumes added an extra layer of excitement, with students embodying characters from their stories, creating a colorful and engaging atmosphere in the classroom.
The day began with a costume parade, where students showcased their outfits. This not only highlighted their creativity but also set the tone for the storytelling sessions. Each student took turns presenting their book, sharing key plot points, characters, and personal reflections. One student dressed as Harry Potter, and recited parts of the story with enthusiasm, while another created a backdrop to illustrate their book’s setting. These creative elements not only made the presentations more engaging but also encouraged others to think outside the box when it came to their own storytelling. Some students even incorporated props and visuals to enhance their storytelling, making their presentations more engaging. The overall enthusiasm and support among classmates created a warm and inclusive environment.
Favorite Book Day was a resounding success, promoting literacy, creativity, and camaraderie among students. It provided an excellent platform for them to share their love of reading and learn from one another. It was not just an opportunity to celebrate individual literary choices; it fostered a strong sense of community and collaboration among students. The enthusiasm, creativity, and engagement displayed throughout the day highlighted the power of storytelling and the joy of reading. It was heartening to see students support and inspire each other, creating a positive learning environment.
