Jleeb Al Shyoukh / Langkawi, Malaysia (24–26 October 2025): In a proud and historic moment for Kuwait and the Indian expatriate community, the Kuwait Tug of War Team, representing the NRI Tug of War Federation, Kuwait, and Indian Educational School (Bhavans Kuwait), clinched the Silver Medal in the Under-23 Men’s 600 kg category at the 15th Asian Tug of War Championship 2025, held in Langkawi, Malaysia.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Bhavans Kuwait became the first GCC school team ever to win a medal at the prestigious Asian Tug of War Championship. Competing with passion and grit, the team displayed exceptional strength and composure throughout the tournament.
During the league round, Bhavans Kuwait recorded victories over Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan, drew with Mongolia, and narrowly lost to India, finishing second overall to secure the silver medal — a remarkable feat for their debut at this level.
The 18-member squad was led by Dr. Murugaiyan S., Head of the Physical Education Department at Indian Educational School, and coached by Mr. D. K. Dilip Nair, General Secretary of the NRI Tug of War Federation, Kuwait. Their leadership, discipline, and tactical preparation proved instrumental in the team’s success.
Dr. Murugaiyan extended heartfelt thanks to the NRI Tug of War Federation of Kuwait, especially Mr. D. K. Dileep, and Ms. Devika, a two-time India representative at the World Championships, whose expert training and guidance were crucial in achieving this milestone.
The players and coaches dedicated their victory to Shri N. K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman of Bhavans Middle East, for his vision and encouragement, and to Principal Mr. Anand Victor for his constant motivation and support.
The team’s journey began with a spirited flag-off ceremony in Kuwait, where Chairman Shri N. K. Ramachandran Menon and Principal Mr. Anand Victor inspired the athletes to compete with courage, humility, and unity. The Chairman’s message—“True sportsmanship lies not only in victory but in participation and learning”—proved prophetic as the team returned home with silver and immense pride.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Murugaiyan said, “This medal is not just a reward for strength, but a symbol of teamwork, dedication, and the indomitable spirit of our youth.”
This silver-medal triumph marks a defining moment in Kuwait’s sporting history and a proud milestone for Bhavans Kuwait, inspiring young athletes across the GCC to dream big and strive for excellence.
