GULF INDIAN SCHOOL’S ANNUAL SPORTS DAY: CELEBRATING TALENT,TEAMWORK AND TRIUMPH
Gulf Indian School was high in spirits as it celebrated its 32nd Annual Inter-House Athletic Meet on 23 October 2025, held at Al Shabab Stadium, Ahmadi, Kuwait.
The event was graced by the Chief Guest Mr. Sreekumar Pillai, Manager, Al-Faisal Educational Establishments and Guest of Honour Ms Siobhan Lee Gomez, Kuwait National Women’s Cricketer. Special Guests included Mr. Qais Parker, Assistant Sales Manager-Bahrah Trading and former Women’s Cricket Team Manager and Dr Sujith Hari Orthopaedic Expert, City Clinic Fahaheel.
The event commenced with a solemn Qur’an recitation, followed by the National Anthem of Kuwait and the school choir’s stirring rendition of the school song. Lia Reba Mathew, the Cultural Secretary, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm greeting to the distinguished guests, participants, and audience while setting a dignified tone for the day’s proceedings.
The celebration began with a vibrant welcome dance, beautifully blending cultural expressions and joyful movements. The ceremony reached its pinnacle as the Chief Guest, Special Guests, and Principal collectively ignited the ceremonial torch, symbolizing unity and excellence, followed by a vibrant balloon release. Members of the School Council then proudly carried the torch around the grounds, marking the official opening of the Sports Day.
The Vice Head Girl, Shakina Joy Karnati, presented the Annual Sports Report, highlighting the school’s remarkable achievements and the spirit of sportsmanship upheld by its students. This was succeeded by the Sports Day march-past by the students of the houses—Sathya, Seva, Jyothi, and Santhi showcasing synchronization, teamwork and school spirit. Students from grades VI to XII marched in unison, exemplifying discipline and collective pride.
Aliza Elsa Vipson, the Sports Captain, administered the oath-taking ceremony, inspiring the students to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship. Dr. Prashant Vasudev, Principal, delivered an insightful and motivational address, emphasizing how sports cultivate valuable life skills such as gracefully coping with both triumph and adversity. Ms. Siobhan Gomez, Guest of Honour, fondly reminisced about her own school sports experiences and commended the teachers for their commendable organizational efforts. Special guest Dr Sujith Hari, addressed modern concerns like excessive screen time and declining physical activity, highlighting the importance of balance. The students of classes III, IV, and V presented an impressive exercise maneuver and drill display, captivating the audience with their flawless coordination and lively energy.
The spotlight then shifted to the electrifying track events, thrilling spectators with intense rivalries across various categories. Races for parents and teachers further promoted unity and teamwork, making the day truly memorable. Medals and trophies for winners and individual champions were presented by the Principal, teachers and esteemed guests. Jyothi House proudly claimed the Overall Championship Trophy for their outstanding performances.
The day concluded with Head Boy Christy Jophy delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the Sports Day, leaving everyone with a spirit of unity, sportsmanship and celebration.
