Gulf Indian School, Kuwait, shimmered with pride and splendour as it celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The occasion unfolded as a radiant confluence of tradition, talent and triumph, bringing together students, educators, parents, alumni and distinguished guests in a memorable tribute to the school’s enduring legacy.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Mr Sreekumar Pillai, Business Manager of Al Faisal Educational Establishment, and distinguished Special Guests: Mr Ravi Ayanoli Principal of Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School, Mrs Sujata Sivakrishnan Principal of Indian Central School, Mr Arul Dharmaraj Thomas, Principal of Al Amal Indian School, Dr Saleem Kundungal Principal of India International School, Mrs Sajitha Menon Principal of Salmiya Indian Model School and Mrs Ambikadevi Sreekumar, Principal of New Gulf Indian School.

The ceremony opened on a note of solemn grace with Quran Recitation, followed by the National Anthem of Kuwait and the School Song. The Welcome Speech by Mrs Sofi Varghese, Vice Principal, warmly set the tone for the celebration, while a vibrant welcome dance infused the gathering with energy and warmth. In his Foundation Day address, the Principal highlighted GIS’s 33-year journey of academic excellence, holistic education, sporting achievements, creativity, character-building, and the collective contributions of the management, teachers, staff, parents and students. He emphasised the importance of preserving the school’s rich legacy while embracing technological and educational advancements, nurturing well-rounded and responsible individuals, and striving towards a brighter future for GIS.

The Annual Report presented a compelling portrait of the school’s remarkable journey, achievements and aspirations. Moments of deep appreciation followed as distinguished guests were honoured and staff members who have completed three decades of dedicated service to GIS received special recognition. The release of Verve and the exciting prize distribution further elevated the celebration, with the prestigious Al Dabbous Scholarship conferred upon outstanding Class XI students and the House Trophy awarded amid resounding applause.

A particularly poignant highlight was the inauguration of the (Late) Mrs Shyamala Divakaran Memorial Proficiency Awards, instituted in cherished memory of the school’s visionary Founder Principal. First-rank holders from Classes I to X were honoured as Proficiency Scholars, each receiving a framed Certificate of Excellence, a commemorative memento, a distinctive royal blue tie and a golden badge of academic distinction. The school extended its profound gratitude to Dr Rajiv and Dr Aruna, children of the late Founder Principal, whose gracious sponsorship of the awards has helped perpetuate her enduring legacy of excellence and inspiration.

Eloquent addresses by the Special Guests inspired the audience, while the presentation of Special Awards, the Literary Debut of the young authors of GIS, Alumni Honouring, and the Badging Ceremony for Club In-charges added further moments of pride to the celebration.

The cultural extravaganza, themed around the GCC nations and titled “Musical Drama – Musical Tradition,”emerged as the crowning glory of the event. Mesmerising performances reflected the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Kuwait, K.S.A., Bahrain, Qatar, U.A.E. and Oman, culminating in the spectacular finale, “Rhythms of Heritage: The Spirit of India.” The celebration concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mrs Nisheela Hakkim, Principal of KG and Primary bringing the memorable occasion to a gracious close and marking another luminous chapter in the continuing saga of Gulf Indian School’s excellence.
