UN-sponsored football event in Kerala
300 teams, 4800 young stars, 286 competitions and participation of 14 districts. We are talking about the school football mela to be held in Kerala. Kerala will play host to the biggest school-level football tournament in the Indian football history in October.
The UN Cup Football event is being organized jointly by the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan along with Kozhikode District Football Association. The Kerala Football Association will also jointly host this.
The preliminary matches would be held on a knockout basis in each district. The winners will play the final match in Kozhikode. The qualifying matches will begin in the first week of October.
There will be a minimum of 20 school teams from each district. If there are few teams from a district, then the other district can bring in more teams. The winner will take home a UN emblem embedded trophy apart from the prize money.
