NASA app teaches kids about rocket launches

The US space agency NASA has launched a new app to make children aware of how rockets are launched.

The free app called 'LSP Activity Book' lets kids learn about the mission planning process and the precise measurements behind creating the right kind of launch vehicle.

NASA's Launch Services Programme (LSP) prepares unmanned spacecraft for launch. The app has a character named 'Peter the Payload' that guides kids through the online colouring activity book.

Children can colour 24 NASA pictures with their choice of 14 colours and several different colouring methods, media reports said.

A crossword teaches children about the solar system, and an 'asteroid maze' mimics asteroid belts that spacecraft navigate. The app is available for iOS and Android users.

The app provides feedback when some activities are completed, and kids can get a certificate of achievement once they 'complete the mission' and make it through the whole activity book.
