Embassy of India, Kuwait, organized an ‘Embassy Familiarization Visit’ on the occasion of Teachers’ Day (September 5, 2022). More than 200 Indian students participated in the event. The focus of the event was to make the students aware about the functioning of the Embassy.
During his opening remarks, Ambassador of India to Kuwait, His Excellency Shri Sibi George extended greetings on the occasion of Teachers’ Day which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, former President of India. Ambassador welcomed the students and teachers to the Embassy and expressed his happiness on the active participation by schools during the celebration of 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations with Kuwait and also Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. He highlighted to the students that the endeavor of the Familiarization visit is to introduce to the students a holistic picture of what embassy does and make the students stakeholders in promoting Indian culture and art in Kuwait.
Ambassador made the students aware about the emergence of India as a major power, focusing on the current efforts under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to transform India into an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He highlighted the many scientific achievements that India made in recent years like invention of Made in India vaccine for Covid 19 and achievements in the field of space like Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan missions.
He emphasized that India is leading the world to find solution for climate change challenges, for example, Indian initiative to establish International Solar Alliance (ISA) which have over hundred countries as its members. India has also undertaken the largest vaccination drive domestically with over 2 billion doses administered to combat the Covid 19 Pandemic. Ambassador also highlighted the role played by Embassy in conduct of NEET, NATA and JEE examination in Kuwait for the first time in Kuwait which helped hundreds of Indian students during the pandemic period. Ambassador stressed that, Embassy is always a home, away from home for all Indians in Kuwait including for the students.
During the event, a video documentary was presented giving a virtual tour of the Embassy, focusing on the working of the Embassy of India along with glimpses of the beauty of India.
Also, a presentation was given on the topic- ‘Introduction to Civil Service’ by the Second Secretary (Education). It focused on the pattern of the examination, eligibility criteria and requirements to be a Civil Servant.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation by the students.
After the event, the students undertook a tour of the Embassy premises to see practically the working of the Embassy on ground and also interacted with officers.

Remarks by Ambassador at the Reception on Indian Naval Ship, July 19, 2022
Our Chief Guest Your Excellency Brig General Hazza Al Alati, Commander of Kuwait Navy, Captain Ravi Kumar, Excellencies, our friends from Kuwait, our friends from the Media, Distinguished Guests and ladies and gentlemen, Good Evening.
It is a matter of great pleasure for me to welcome you all to this evening reception on board Indian Naval Ship INS TEG. I am happy that this important ship visit to Kuwait is taking place during the year when we celebrate the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between and Kuwait and when we celebrate Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, the 75th year of India’s independence. This important ship visit is reflective of the growing bilateral partnership between India and Kuwait in all sectors, particularly in the field of defence cooperation.
Dear Friends,
India and Kuwait enjoy a very traditional and vibrant relationship. Over the years this engagement has become a long-standing dynamic partnership involving several stakeholders such as government agencies, business establishments, industry groups, universities, science and technology establishments, academicians, scholars, students, innovation and research organizations, and importantly our Indian community with its most vibrant people to people contacts. Every institution in Kuwait, every business and every enterprise here in Kuwait has some positive story of engagement with India to tell, which makes us all proud. Kuwait, which is part of India’s extended neighborhood, today is a key partner in our economic progress, particularly in energy security and healthcare.
Despite the many difficulties and challenges posed by Covid 19 pandemic, our relationship continued to grow in recent years. In fact, our bilateral cooperation in the fight against Covid 19 pandemic further strengthened our partnership. You would recall the dispatch of emergency medical team from India to Kuwait and then supply of Made in India Vaccines to Kuwait. We recall the supply of medical oxygen from Kuwait to India, which made Kuwait the largest supplier of medical oxygen to India. In this context I recall the visit of six Indian Naval Ships to Kuwait last year which further strengthened our bilateral cooperation.
Dear Friends,
Today morning I had a ceremonial visit to INS TEG. This ship has been deployed extensively for numerous missions including for anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and has been providing maritime security in the region. The visit of INS TEG to Kuwait signifies Indian Navy’s commitment to establish cooperative partnership with friendly nations of the Indian ocean region and beyond to resolve maritime challenges together. I am so happy to see the significant achievements India has made in building a very strong Navy, which is contributing immensely in ensuring the safety, security and stability of the Indian ocean and beyond.
I am confident that in coming months we will have more ship visits and more bilateral engagement between our defense forces. Once again I welcome you all.

Remarks by Amb Sibi George at the Inauguration of the Handloom Exhibition in Kuwait, May 29, 2022
Good Morning Everybody,
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to join you today at the inauguration of Indian Handloom Exhibition in Kuwait. This exhibition is organized as part of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait. The Sadu House museum is a place where one could see the strong connect between India and Kuwait in textiles industry particularly in the handloom sector. For many generations, Kuwaiti weavers were importing dyes from India. I am happy that this exhibition is held at Sadu House today. I thank NCCAL and Sadu House for the support.
In June last year, we launched a yearlong celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. With NCCAL we had planned a series of joint events covering the entire spectrum of culture, art and letters. It has music activity days, cultural weeks covering Indian movies, culture performances, seminar on historic relations between two countries, seminar on wellness tourism opportunities, joint musical evenings, joint activities on antiquities and maritime trade routes, clothing exhibition, pottery exhibition, symposium on the connect between India and Kuwaiti cuisines, currency and jewelry exhibitions and so on. Despite the challenges of Covid 19 pandemic we organized a series of events.
Today, we are here to inaugurate the Handloom Exhibition at the prestigious Sadu House. It is both culture and business in action together in this exhibition. In its economic transformation, India considers each one of the other GCC countries including Kuwait as our natural partners. In our relations with Kuwait, there exists an opportunity to enhance our presence in sectors where we have been traditionally strong. This include sectors such as food materials, textiles, chemicals, gems and jewelry, engineering machinery etc. In the long term we could move up the value chain in several sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, design outsourcing, development of cutting-edge technologies, ICT and AI across several sectors. It is in this context that this exhibition gains significance. It is part of our efforts to celebrate our cultural connect and at the same time enhance our economic engagement with Kuwait.
The vibrant handloom industry in India reflects India’s cultural richness and diversity. Indian hand-woven fabrics have been known since time immemorial. Of all the arts and crafts of India, traditional handloom textiles are probably among the oldest. The handloom industry in India has a long tradition of excellent craftsmanship, representing and preserving the vibrant Indian culture. Each region of India has its own textile tradition.
From Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, from North East to Rajasthan and Gujarat, handloom in diverse variety and style is spread across thousands of towns and villages in all the Sates of India. In fact, there is hardly any village where weavers do not exist, each weaving out the traditional beauty of India's own precious heritage. Indian artists are now distinguished worldwide for their hand spinning, weaving and printing elegance and our handloom products are known all over the world.
India’s textiles sector is one of the oldest industries in the Indian economy, dating back to several centuries. The industry is extremely varied, with hand-spun and hand-woven textiles sectors at one end of the spectrum, while the capital-intensive sophisticated mills sector on the other end. India is the world's second largest exporter of textiles and clothing. The Indian textiles and apparel industry contribute 12% to export earnings and held 5% of the global trade in textiles and apparel. It is expected to grow to US$ 190 billion by FY 2026.
In this modern textile industry, India’s handloom sector continues to have a significant position. With over six million people directly and indirectly involved, the handloom industry is the second-largest employment provider for the rural population in India after agriculture.
Indian handloom industry products are known for their unique designs and finesse. The industry has a strong infrastructure with about 2.4 million looms of varied designs and construction, indicating significant production capacity. The export of handloom products from India is valued at around US$ 350 million annually. Nearly 15% of cloth production in India is from the handloom sector.
I invite our Kuwaiti friends to be partners in India’s economic progress and try out more Indian products. I invite the Indian diaspora to join hands with the Embassy and other stakeholders in generating more interest for Indian handloom products among our Kuwait friends and other expatriates.
I thank the many importers of handloom products and textiles from India. I particularly thank Indian Heritage who have put together this impressive collection today.

Welcome to all to the Embassy.
I begin by thanking HH Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jabar Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jabar Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait for hosting the large Indian community in Kuwait.
Dear Friends,
I am so delighted to attend the Odisha Day celebrations that we organize today as part of our State Facilitation Program. In the last two years, despite the many challenges posed by the devastating Covid 19 pandemic, we have been celebrating India in Kuwait with at least one major event being held every week, and at least one online display every day on our social media platforms. The various platforms that we created such as Indian Business Network (IBN), Indian Cultural Network (ICN), Indian Professional Network (IPN) and Indian Readers Network (IRN) are all taking steady steps aimed at showcasing Indian culture, tourism, heritage, also deepening our economic engagement and highlighting our scientific achievements. Since last year, we have held multiple events under the banner Aatmanirbhar Bharat i.e. Self-Reliant India and conducted various State Facilitation events focusing on different states of India.
I am happy that most of the Indian associations and groups in Kuwait wholeheartedly participate in these events and also organized their own events. These all have contributed immensely in promoting India in Kuwait, building our relationship with this friendly country and also in maintaining the momentum in our efforts to support an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Our 3 Ts program, to enhance our engagement in Trade, Technology and Tourism is yielding positive results.
Today we are here to celebrate Odisha, a great State of India that needs no introduction. It is India’s best kept secret which is like a hidden gem for all visitors to India. It is a gifted serene landscape with uncrowded and unspoilt beaches. It’s a land steeped in history and mythology with its many ancient temples, tribal cultures, and abundance of natural beauty.
I had the opportunity to visit Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, a green and clean city with rich cultural life. I am told that it is one of the major cities that enables an authentic overview of the stages of development of temple architecture, where temple building activities of unique Odishan style existed and flourished over a few thousand years.

Odisha is also one of the fastest growing Sates of India with its economy registering a sharp recovery in 2021-22 with a growth rate of 10.1%. Odisha’s industries are based mainly on its natural resources which is more than 35% of country’s natural resources. The state has significant reserves of iron ore, bauxite, nickel, coal, etc. which makes it an attractive destination for mineral-based industries. In 2020-21, over 47% of mineral production in India was from the State of Odisha. Today, the State is on the cusp of an information and communication technology revolution. I see a great opportunity for our Kuwaiti business to deepen their engagement with Odisha. I invite our Kuwaiti business partners to explore Odisha and also include it in their tourism itinerary. Odisha indeed is a very good destination for our 3 Ts engagement, Trade, Technology and Tourism.
I am happy to welcome today the vibrant members of the Indian community who are here in Kuwait from the State of Odisha. I thank the members of the community who have put together a cultural evening for us today. I congratulate the artists who are performing for us today. I congratulate the winners of various competitions who are felicitated today in this function. I thank the Kuwait Odisha Association for their initiative in celebrating the Odisha day.
