“Unity in Diversity” of India celebrated at Writers’ Forum Kuwait’s Republic Day Event

India is a land of different cultures and languages. This Unity in Diversity was well witnessed at the Writers’ Forum Kuwait’s Multilingual Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira organized on 27th January 2023 to celebrate the 74th Republic Day of India.

Pic11The event began with much splendor by the General Secretary Ms. Nazneen  Ali who showcased the multilingual diversity of India by wishing Happy Independence Day to the audience in 11 different Indian languages. This set the tone for the Grand Event in a jam-packed Hall at The Rajdhani Palace Restaurant where poets were all set to weave chords to spread the shades of 8 different Indian languages. Nazneen Ali welcome the audience and then invited the President of the Forum and Maharashtra State Sahitya Academy Award winner Mrs Maimuna Ali Chougle on the Dias. She then welcomed Mr. Kamal Singh Rathore, the First Secretary Community Affairs and Associations, Embassy of India Kuwait as the Chief Guest of the evening. Veteran Urdu poet and Forum’s senior member Mr. Sayeed Nazar Kadpawi was invited to preside over the function.

After the traditional lighting of the lamp and national anthem, Mrs. Maimuna Ali set forth a strong foundation for the event in her keynote speech describing the activities of the Forum and highlighting the importance of the regional languages in both verbal as well as script form. Mr. Kamal Singh Rathore was equally expressive in mentioning the importance of literature, poets and writers in carving the structure and future of our society. Ms. Nazneen Ali then invited Dr. Radhika Guleri Bhardwaj as the compere of the evening.

Pic17Dr. Radhika Guleri continued with the Patriotic tone set by Ms. Nazneen Ali and started the program by her beautiful couplet. She further emphasized that all languages are equally important and enriching for the betterment of literature. She then invited the first poet of the day Ms. Sabiha Bilgrami who recited an experience named “Ward 18” that everyone could relate to. Ms. Anupama Chaturvedi tried searching for Unity in Diversity of views through her Hindi poem, while Mohan Singh recited an equally mesmerizing poem from Ms. Parminder Kaur’s book The Phoenix. Ibrahim Sange Qasid’s Urdu poetry was a mood changer for the audience. This was well complimented by another beautiful recitation in Urdu by S. Muzammil Qader.

Mrs. Kalpana Shah’s Gujarati poem followed by its Hindi translation was a lovely simile depicting life as a kite. The feminist power was strong enough to raise the bar. While Ms. Pallavi Nithin shared a Marathi poem with Hindi translation relating to one’s bond with the motherland, Dr. Radhika Guleri’s subject was a parent child bonding, both of which were heart touching. Ms. Nazneen Ali’s Urdu poetry was much enjoyed and applauded by the audience.

The momentum continued with Ameeruddin Ameer’s Kannada poem on cleanliness with an equally clean Hindi version of the same. The feeling was patriotism was reinforced by Biswa Ranjan’s poem in Oriya which was meaningfully translated by Ms. Nazneen Ali. Pawan Pankaz’s Punjabi Ghazal and transalation and Shabih Ahmed’s Urdu poetry was well received by the audience. Sabir Omer’s poetry was a good wit to ensure that the event has a good mix of solemn and amusing moments.

GroupThe program ended on a high note with the recitation on the Pandemic experience shared by Mrs. Maimuna Ali Chougle and spellbound performance in Urdu by Mr. Sayeed Nazar.

In his Presidential Speech Mr. Sayeed Nazar shared his experience as a poet and familiarized the audience with the art of poetry and writing. He congratulated the poets for the successful event hoping to witness many more such great events under the Forum’s banner. Mr. Sabir Omer then extended the vote of thanks to the audience, sponsors and members with a special gratitude to Mr. Kamal Singh Rathore for sparing his precious time and accepting the invitation to be the Chief Guest of the evening and Mr. Sayeed Nazar for Presiding the event. He also appreciated the efforts of Ms. Nazneen Ali and Dr. Radhika Guleri for the successful management of the program under the guidance of Mrs. Maimuna Ali Chougle. Mr. Sabir also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Ali Chougle who could not attend the event but is always supporting the Forum as a patron.

The event left the audience with a range of impressions and thoughts in variety of languages. To this were added varied flavors of Indian Spices in a savory dinner that was relished by all.
