Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros Inaugurates Kuwait Maha Edavaka Sapthathi Sangamam
Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of the Kottayam Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, inaugurated the ‘Kuwait Maha Edavaka Sapthathi Sangamam 2026’, organized as part of the year-long Sapthathi (70th anniversary) celebrations of St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Kuwait, under the Diocese of Calcutta of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
The gathering was presided over by His Grace Alexios Mar Yausebios, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Calcutta. Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Chandy Oommen MLA, Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Kollam, and Rony Varghese Abraham, Lay Trustee of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, were among the distinguished guests.
Vicar of Kuwait Maha Edavaka, Rev. Fr. Dr. Biju Paraykkal, delivered the welcome address, while Sapthathi General Convener Mathews Varghese proposed the vote of thanks.
Maha Edavaka Trustee Jerry John Koshy, Secretary Tiju Alex Paul, Church Managing Committee members Thomas Kuruvilla and Paul Varghese, Sapthathi Finance Convener Naveen Kurian Thomas, and Programme Convener Binu Bennyam were present at the function.
Former Vicars of the Maha Edavaka and those who had previously served in various leadership positions were honoured during the gathering. A special presentation of Christian devotional songs by the Keys Band was one of the major attractions of the Sapthathi Sangamam.
The event, held at the Puthuppally Church Auditorium, was attended by former Vicars, Trustees, Secretaries and Managing Committee members of the Kuwait Maha Edavaka, as well as former members who have settled permanently in Kerala after their years of expatriate life in Kuwait and parishioners who were in Kerala on vacation.
