Politics is sacred, LET’S VALUE, the worth of values

Born in Chennai, India, as the second in a middle class family of six children, Lakshminarayanan Ramanujam (LN) studied in Tamil medium in MOP Elementary school initially and took higher education through The Hindu Higher Secondary School in Triplicane, Chennai.

His father S Ramanujam was a bank official and mother Pankajavalli was a school teacher. His maternal grandfather V V Narasimhan who worked alongside eminent writer Chandilyan was the Sub-Editor of “ Swadesamithran ” 

Following the lines of his elder brother, he studied BCom.  As per the wishes of his elder brother and parents, he went into the Chartered Accountancy course, though not with full frame of mind.  After his elder brother, Mr Sathyamurthy qualified as a CA 1987 he took the course seriously and became CA Finalist in 1990. 

Success was eluding LN for few years.  He cleared the pending part in CA Final in 1993 due to perseverance.  Since then, he worked for few companies in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Oman and in the United Kingdom and also engaged in Chartered Accountancy practice in between.

Living and working in various parts of India and abroad shaped him socially.  LN says he used to think a lot about the imbalances in the economic, commercial and social systems affecting the people at large. He felt he could be a contributing social activist, through projects that could balance the imbalances in several systems and sub-systems to benefit the society at large.  The thought made him develop a project titled LetsValue (www.letsvalue.org) to benefit the democracy.   

LN says, people join politics to get into governance and serve the society.  He adds, politicians serving the society, with varied social backgrounds, are valuable assets of the nation as they project and protect the image of the country.  

However, he feels that, after getting selected for important public positions, some of our elected representatives, at times, deviate from ethical social values and their party ideologies.

Existence of police reduces and avoids crime in the society. Same way, LN says, very voting public involving in political policing could help the politicians and elected representatives to get better and be ethical, for the good of their nation.

Also, when the elected have immense power and social responsibility to streamline systems and procedures and reduce corruption, not much seems to be happening. LN says, in general, it is only the ‘time’ that succeeds ‘every time’. Corruption, black money, stock market scams, denied law through delayed justice could be avoided, by instituting suitable systems and procedures, by people in power as they have the authority and resource and also possess power to gather the required human and financial resource for the purpose.

LN says, LetsValue.org mechanism is neutral by nature and has no discrimination. It helps both winners and losers, to have a regular and better feel of the pulse of the people, they are serving for.  According to him, LetsValue.org has been designed in such a way that it helps the people to revisit the values they had assigned to those they had voted for or against, or, not assigned to any as non voters. He adds, with public participation at large, www.LetsValue.org mechanism could also provide a political referendum and scope for much needed ethical competition amongst the politicians and motivation for them to yield more. 

LN feels, politicians and those that get elected can keep bettering their values, at all times, for the benefit of the society they are part of and, should be keen about.

He says, he had spent a lot of time in structuring the data of the most recent elections of all the States across the country and General elections to the Lok Sabha and designed the algorithm and the platform, for free use by 400 million+ public through 240 million internet connections in the country. 

He says, he intends to add analytics and add more flavor to www.LetsValue.org and extend it to other Democracies.

He believes working through his projects he could contribute for strengthening the economic, commercial and social systems, generate more paid employments for the people, and transform the society for good without being a NGO.  

LN is now on a challenging job of raising funds for LET’S VALUE and expects the financially rich and socially inclined to fund”.
