ICSK KHAITAN BECOMES A GREEN SCHOOL WITH MODERN AGRO METHODS

Green School KuwaitThe Indian Community School Kuwait, Khaitan, inaugurated the second year of the Green School Project (GSP), on Saturday, 10th November, 2018 in the school premises. Mr. Agnello Fernandes, Joint Secretary, BOT, ICSK was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Sherly Dennis, Principal of ICSK Junior was the guest of honour. Mrs Neeta Fernandes was also present on the occasion as a special guest.

Green School KuwaitThe school started GSP in its premises last year with a purpose of developing skills and knowledge in food growing techniques among students which will be essential and vital for living on the earth in the 21stcentury. It also imparts qualities like loving and appreciating nature, teamwork, and social skills among students. The vegetable garden was named as ‘Shilu Mary Vegetable Garden’ in remembrance of late Mrs. Shilu Mary Samuel, who was a science teacher at ICSK, Khaitan, with lots of passion and enthusiasm in this project. She and her team worked for successful vegetable garden in the last year. In her memory, her family sponsored the second phase development of the project.

Green School KuwaitIn the second phase, the green school project introduced ‘Hydroponics’ in the school garden. Hydrophonic is a subset of hydro culture, which is a method of growing plants without soil by using mineral nutrient solutions in water solvents. Varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs were planted by the students.  The students are assigned to take care of these plants in their break time under the supervision of the in-charge teacher. The project also helps students to learn about food sustainability and water conservation now to prepare them for the future. Another interesting technique displayed in green school is the step plantations. Various pants are put up on pillars of the corridor to save space and beautify the area.

Mr Abdul Rouf Shah from Gulf Palm Nursery is acting as a chief consultant. He provides all selfless service for the activities of this project. Mrs Anjana Dhinoji, the teacher In Charge of GSP is taking immense efforts in the activities of project.

The chief guest, Mr Agnello appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers, and encouraged them to continue good work for the cause of education and imbibing environmental values among students.
