IMG 20230531 WA0005FAIPS-DPS in association with Indian Doctors Forum organized a seminar on anti-vaping for its students on Wednesday, 31st May, 2023 (World No Tobacco Day), at FAIPS-DPS Multi- Purpose Hall.  Vaping has become a global health challenge. In order to combat this growing problem and to sensitize students about the potential long-term health implications of vape abuse, the school initiated this health awareness program in conjunction with the School Health Awareness Programme & Educational Seminars (SHAPES) of IDF, Kuwait.

A special assembly was held in the school auditorium to focus attention on this regard. The programme, attended by the students of classes 9 and 11, began with the recital of the Holy Quran and the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Prayer song ‘Ye mat kaho khuda se’ sung by the school choir gave goose bumps to everyone present.

The Principal Mr. Ravi Ayanoli, in his welcome address lauded the efforts of the IDF team for their immense support for the amelioration of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait. He warmly welcomed the Chief Guests for the programme, Dr. Thomas Koshy George, Cardiologist and General Secretary, IDF and Dr. Juzer Ali, Clinical Oncologist. Expressing gratitude to Dr. Diwakara Chaluvaiah, President, IDF, he stated that IDF has always averred in social cause and spread awareness in pertinent issues linked to the Indian coterie.

Dr. Juzer Ali gave an insightful talk on harmful consumption and the need to break this habit through an enlightening PPT titled ‘Breaking the Web of Tobacco/ Vaping Addictions’. The doctor explained the precarious consequences of vape use and made the students realise how it slowly leads to the dysfunction of organs. He reiterated that addiction should be nipped in the bud to curb the spike in cases.

Education should not merely focus on finishing portions and scoring a few percentages; it should always nurture the holistic development of each student and promote effective policies against substance abuse. A meaningful interactive question and answer session ensued wherein students posed intelligent and thought-provoking questions and convincing replies were provided to them by Dr. Juzer Ali.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks urging the students to view this awareness seminar as a wakeup call and abstain from this heinous habit as health in the long run is more important than being ‘cool and popular’.
