Bhavans Middle East Science Quiz: BME Quest 2023

453A8050In an electrifying display of intellect and enthusiasm, Bhavans Kuwait, hosted a riveting Science Quiz- Second Edition of Bhavans Middle East Science Quiz: Quest 2023, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, that captivated the minds of students and showcased their passion for scientific knowledge. 

The event, held at IES auditorium, featured seven teams consisting of 21 quizzers from grades 6, 7 and 8 from seven schools under the umbrella of Bhavans Middle East. The teams had aced through the preliminary round to earn their spot in this challenging competition. Teams from Smart Indian School and Indian Education School Kuwait were present on campus, while teams from BIS Bahrain, PWS Dubai, PIES Abu Dhabi, and BPWS Al Ain, ASIS Al Ain,  joined the competition remotely via Zoom platform. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. N. K Ramachandran Menon, Chairman of Bhavans Middle East, who was the Chief Guest of the day. 

The event unfurled with the rendition of the Kuwait National Anthem followed by the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran by Reem of grade 12. The Chairman, Mr. N. K Ramachandran Menon along with Principal of IES, Mr. T Premkumar, Vice Principals Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Mr. Binoy Mathew, Head Mistress Ms. Muneera Mammikutty and the quiz master, Mr Bobby George Kurien, lit the lamp of knowledge. Advika Ram of grade 7, welcomed the august gathering with a bouquet of cordiality.  

Reine Mary John of grade 8, introduced the Quiz Master, Mr. Bobby George Kurien, a proud parent of IES, and a passionate quizzer with an impressive track record in the quizzing world. Mr. Bobby expressed his gratitude to the school management for providing him a golden opportunity to serve the school as the Quiz Master of QUEST 2023. Wishing the teams good luck, he briefed the quizzers about the various rounds. 

The palpable excitement filled the air as the teams, eagerly awaited the challenging questions that lay ahead. The quiz was meticulously designed to cover a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, ranging from Space Exploration, Life Sciences, Chemical World, Physics Visual Round, Google Doodle, Nobel Laureates etc. The questions were crafted to not only test theoretical knowledge but also encourage critical thinking and practical application of scientific principles. 

After an intense battle of wits, Team IES Kuwait comprising of Sreevardhan Pradeep, Abhijith Sujith and Sukruti Krishnamurthy Gowda  emerged as the winners of the Second Edition of BME Quest 2023 with 70 points.  Team SIS with Shaun George, Azhar Abdul Nazar and Niranjan Kalissery as quizzers, were the First Runners-up with 45 points and the team consisting of Tanya Grace, Savion Mathew, Akshit of Bhavans Pearl Wisdom School, Al Ain were the second Runners-up with 40 points. The teams showcased not only their mastery of scientific concepts but also their ability to work seamlessly as a team. One of the highlights of the event was the collaborative spirit among the participants. The teams, consisting of three members each, demonstrated effective communication and teamwork as they tackled complex problems and brainstormed solutions within the given time constraints. The quiz was expertly moderated by Mr. Bobby George Kurien, whose extensive knowledge and engaging style added an extra layer of excitement to the competition. The audience which comprised mainly of the BSS cadets of Bhavans Kuwait, also took part actively and tackled all the questions thrown to them. Beyond the thrill of competition, ‘BME Quest 2023’ served as an educational platform, encouraging students to delve deeper into the wonders of science. The event sparked conversations about the importance of scientific literacy and the role it plays in shaping the future.  

The prize winners were lauded and awarded trophies of achievement, reinforcing BVME management’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity. Principal of IES, Kuwait, Mr. T. Premkumar expressed his hearty gratitude to Mr. Bobby George Kurien, the Quiz Master of the day for making the quiz a real battle of brains by skillfully navigating through the diverse questions, ensuring that the participants were both challenged and motivated. He acknowledged the efforts of the Heads of the Science Department, Ms. Sindu Ashok and Ms. Deepasree and the Science faculty in making the ‘BME Quest 2023’ a grand success. He appreciated all the participants for their enthusiasm exhibited in taking part in this competition. He extolled the winners for making their schools proud with their exemplary scientific acumen. 

Evanna Sarah Brijesh of grade 9 delivered the vote of thanks. Daya Vinil of grade 9 was the emcee of the day.   

‘BME QUEST 2023’ was more than a competition; it was a celebration of knowledge, teamwork, and a testament to BVBME team’s commitment to fostering a love for science. As the participants left the platform with a renewed sense of curiosity, it was evident that the event had successfully ignited a spark that will continue to illuminate their academic journeys.  

The event culminated with the soulful rendition of the Indian National Anthem.
