Building a Legacy of Compassion: Blood Donation Drive at the Indian Community School, Kuwait

3 2The Indian Community School, Kuwait believes in fostering values and transforming lives through the various initiatives the institution undertakes in its life- long journey of nurturing young minds. Committed to the social responsibilities, the school strives to empower the students to become ambassadors of humanity through various activities conducted throughout the academic year. These activities not only nurture empathy and leadership skills but also demonstrate how individual actions can create positive change in the world.

Continuing the tradition of pioneering initiatives, ICSK proudly hosted Blood Donation Drive on Sunday, 12th May 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and dispel common misconceptions surrounding it. A dedicated team of medical professionals, led by Dr. Ayat from the Kuwait Central Blood Bank, comprising six nurses and three administrative staff members was welcomed to the ICSK Family with a thunderous applause.

The opening ceremony commenced with an Islamic prayer followed by school prayer and national anthems of India and Kuwait. Dr. V. Binumon, Principal and Senior Administrator of ICSK greeting the audience on the occasion of Mother’s Day and International Nurses Day, presented a cordial welcome. Underscoring the importance of serving the society, Dr. V. Binumon, motivated the students to be life - saving donors once they reach the age of 18. Mrs. Nigy Jacob, HOD Biology emphasized the importance of blood donation through anecdotes. Dr. Ayat stressed on the pivotal role of blood donation in saving lives and outlined the donation criteria, inspiring the youth to become life-saving heroes.

The medical team was honored with a token of appreciation for their presence and motivation. Vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Nitin, HOD Hindi and Chief Coordinator of the Blood Donation Drive marked the beginning of the donation process.

A total of 81 members of the ICSK Family including parents, students and staff registered as donors, exemplifying their commitment to this noble cause. Miss. Abida Tabassum Adrika of class XII set an inspiring example by voluntarily donating blood. The overwhelming support demonstrated by the ICSK community was truly uplifting, with donors receiving certificates to commemorate their contribution. A special moment was captured as parent -student pairs posed for photographs.

Students from each class were given the opportunity to observe the donation process, gaining valuable insight into its benefits and procedures. They expressed gratitude towards the dedicated medical team and praised the donors for their generosity and spirit.

With the potential to save up to three lives with each donation, the success of the blood donation drive at ICSK underscores the power of collective action. As the institution continues its journey, it remains committed to serving humanity and making a positive impact on the world.
