A talk on ‘Emerging Careers and future opportunities’ was organized at Smart Indian School, Kuwait under the aegis of the Department of Counselling and Psychology on 15th May 2024 for students of grades 9-12. Ms. Alka Kumra - Career coach associated with Accelmorcareers India served as the resource person for the programme. The session commenced with a welcome note by Ms. Prisha of grade 10 in the esteemed presence of the School Principal - Mr. Mahesh Iyer, Senior Vice Principal - Ms. Anselma Tessy and Vice Principal - Ms. Albin Daisy. The session was coordinated by the School Counselor - Ms. Anju Jacob.
Ms. Alka began with a vibrant and thought-provoking quote by UNICEF Executive Director which inspired the students to sit back and understand the need to update themselves with details related to new age skills which is pivotal for their future career prospects. Her main focus along with providing enriching particulars on trending careers was enhanced with supporting visuals which made the young listeners have an instant cue pertinent to the topic discussed. Further Ms. Alka explained in detail the convectional careers and the upgraded new age careers with due emphasis on ethical hacking, you tubing, candid photography, image consultancy, app development, luxury brand management, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, data analysis and internet of things. Moreover, Ms. Alka also elaborated on the lucrative careers one could foresee relevant for the courses, Science & Technology, Liberal Arts & Designs, Commerce, Humanities, Hospitality & Tourism, Media & Communication, Education, training & Research and much more.
Ms. Alka, emphasized on the need to have a clear vision in mind while choosing a career which is rewarding and successful and also informed the student, how a career pans out will depend a lot on the stream students select after Class X. She informed students stream choices they make are neutral but the subjects they learn in high school, go a long way in structuring their future and she urged the students to be more informed and to be more considerate in deciding their subjects in higher grades that would determine their future opportunities. Ms. Alka clarified the queries raised by the students instantly. The session was well appreciated by the senior leadership team and as a token of appreciation, Ms. Alka was felicitated with a magnificent painting designed by Mr. Prince Michael of the Arts department.
