Bhavans SIS Hosts Cybersecurity Awareness Session for Middle School Students

With this in mind, Bhavans SIS organized a Cyber Safety session for students of grades 6 to 8. The session was led by Mr. Sriram Gopalakrishnan, a chartered accountant and a dedicated parent who is deeply interested in the well-being of children. As the guest speaker, he provided valuable insights on how to stay safe in the digital world. The session began with a warm welcome note by Ms. Karthiga Tirupathy Gopalagounder, the Head of the Department of Computer Science. She introduced the speaker to the eager and inquisitive learners.

In his session, Mr. Sriram emphasized the importance of using social media responsibly, encouraging students to be mindful of their actions and interactions online. He discussed in detail the critical need to safeguard personal information and online profiles to avoid identity theft and other digital threats. Moreover, Mr. Sriram provided useful tips for securing devices by using strong passwords and appropriate security tools. He focused on the common online threats such as phishing, malware, and scams. He also taught students how to recognize and avoid these risks. Guidance was offered on how to stay safe while engaging online, including the importance of not sharing personal information and the risks of interacting with strangers. Mr. Sriram discussed how to identify, respond to, and prevent cyberbullying, emphasizing the importance of a respectful and supportive online environment. He also touched on the legal consequences of online misconduct, urging students to understand that their actions in the digital world have real-life implications. Mr. Sriram answered the students' queries succinctly, ensuring that they walked away with a clear understanding of how to protect themselves online.

The session concluded with a thoughtful message from the Principal of Smart Indian School, Mr. Binoy Mathew, who informed students to understand the importance of cybersecurity. He reminded them not to engage in activities that could lead to unnecessary trouble, which might have lasting consequences not only for them but also for their families. As a token of appreciation, Mr. Sriram was honored with a beautiful painting created by Mr. Sunimon Mangalath Suseelan from the Art Department. This enlightening and empowering session provided students with practical tools and knowledge to protect themselves from online risks and encouraged them to practice safe, responsible online behavior.
