Empowering Staff with Life - Saving Skills: BLS Awareness Session at ICSK

001The Indian Community School, Kuwait organized an Awareness Session on Basic Life Support (BLS) for the non-teaching staff on Saturday, 5th September 2026 at the ICSK Senior auditorium. The programme was organized with the objective of equipping the staff with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently and appropriately during medical emergencies and thereby contribute to maintaining a safe and caring school environment. The session was graced by the presence of Mr. Nihas Vanimel, Basic Life Support Trainer, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Trainer and Social Worker, Dr. V. Binumon, Principal and Senior Administrator of ICSK, and Mrs. Sheeja C., Principal of ICSK Junior.

The session commenced with the Islamic Prayer by Master Ibrahim Yelukar. Dr. V. Binumon, Principal and Senior Administrator of ICSK welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of being prepared to respond to emergencies, particularly in a school environment where prompt action can make a significant difference.

The main presentation and training session was conducted by Mr. Nihas Vanimel. The programme began with a theoretical session, during which the participants were introduced to the fundamentals of Basic Life Support and the importance of timely intervention during emergencies.

The trainer then moved on to practical demonstrations and hands-on training. One of the major components of the session was Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The participants were taught the basic procedure for performing CPR and were given practical guidance on how to respond when a person requires immediate assistance. The demonstrations helped the staff understand the importance of remaining calm, assessing the situation and taking appropriate action while waiting for professional medical assistance.

The session also covered the appropriate response to situations such as fainting, choking and sprains. The participants were guided through the essential steps to be followed in each situation and were made aware of the importance of providing immediate and appropriate first aid. Particular emphasis was placed on recognizing emergencies quickly, responding safely and avoiding actions that could worsen the condition.

The training provided the non-teaching staff with valuable awareness about CPR for adults and children, handling choking and respiratory emergencies, and basic first aid for common medical emergencies. The combination of theoretical explanation, demonstrations and practical guidance made the session informative and engaging.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Waseem, Health Club Coordinator, who expressed appreciation to the trainer, school authorities and all the participants for their involvement in making the training session successful.

The BLS awareness session was a highly informative and practical initiative. It enhanced the confidence and preparedness of the non-teaching staff to respond appropriately in emergency situations and highlighted the school’s commitment to creating a safe, prepared and caring campus environment.
