Thanima Kuwait to Host 19th National Tug of War Championship & 13th ‘Pearl of the School’ Awards Ceremony on November 28

Thanima Kuwait will host the 19th National Tug of War Championship for the Sanseelia Ever Rolling Trophy on November 28 at the Open Floodlight Stadium of Integrated Indian School, Abbasiya. 

The event will take place from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, according to the Onathanima Convener. In memory of renowned Malayalam writer Late M.T. Vasudevan Nair, the venue has been named “M.T. Nagar.”, which will be inaugurated by Mr. Suresh Karthik, businessman and Karate expert (6th Dan Black Belt, Japan). 

The public meeting will be graced by Portuguese international volleyball player Mr. Jose Pedro Gomez, NRI Tug of War Selection Committee Chairman Mr. Harvinder Singh, prominent cultural figures, and leading business personalities in Kuwait. 

On the same day, the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam ‘Pearl of the School’ Awards will be presented to outstanding students from 24 Indian schools in Kuwait for their excellence in academics and co-curricular activities. Additionally, the Bini Memorial Award, instituted in memory of a United Indian School teacher, will be presented to the best-performing Grade 7 student of UIS. Medals and certificates will also be awarded to the Kuwait National Tug of War Team, which secured the silver medal at the Asian Championship held in Malaysia. 

Those present at the press conference included Onathanima Convener Binil Skaria, Program Convener Jacob Varghese, Organising Committee Chairman Babuji Bathery, Thanima Sports Convener Jins Mathew, Thanima General Convener Jojimon Thomas, Thanima Office Secretary Jinu K. Abraham, Thanima Treasurer Rana Varghese, Onathanima Joint Convener Dominic Antony, Onathanima Finance Convener Shaji Varghese, Thanima Joint Convener Vijesh Velayudhan, NRI Tug of War Federation General Secretary D.K. Dileep, Thanima Ladies Wing Convener Usha Dileep, and Media Convener Mubarak Kambrath.

This year's Tug of War festival will feature over 20 teams that have undergone months of rigorous training, along with more than 30 athletes from various parts of the world. Conducted with the approval of the Tug of War Federation of India, top-performing athletes from the event will earn the opportunity to represent Kuwait in national championships in India. The impressive Ever Rolling Trophies, standing nearly 5–6 feet tall, remain a key highlight of the Thanima Tug of War Championship. Thanima warmly welcomes all sports lovers to attend this grand, free-to-enter to Onathanima festival.
