Historic Triumph for Kuwait NRI Team at the Indian National Tug of War Championship

PHOTO 2026 01 31 20 15 15The Kuwait NRI Team etched its name in history with a remarkable performance at the 38th Indian National Junior and Sub-Junior Tug of War Championship held in Palghar, Maharashtra, achieving a significant milestone in the country’s sporting arena. 

In a highly thrilling contest in the Under-19 (520 kg) category, the young athletes from Kuwait scripted history by defeating former champions Maharashtra to clinch the title. In the Under-13 category, the young talents from Kuwait put up a fierce fight against the strong Maharashtra team and impressed everyone by securing the silver medal. 

Meanwhile, in the Under-15 category, the Kuwait team displayed outstanding determination and strength throughout the tournament, overpowering tough opponents to win the bronze medal. 

Representing the Kuwait NRI Team, around 75 expatriate student athletes and nearly 10 officials participated in the championship from institutions such as Bhavans School, United International School, United Indian School, and New Indian School. This was the first time that the Kuwait NRI Federation Team participated in an official national-level tug of war tournament in India. 

The impressive performance in their very first appearance surprised sports enthusiasts across the country. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Madan Mohan, General Secretary of the Tug of War Federation of India, lauded the exceptional display by the Kuwait team. 

 At the farewell function, Bhavans School Chairman Mr. Ramachandra Menon highly appreciated the efforts of Mr. D. K. Dileep, General Secretary of the Kuwait NRI Tug of War Association, who spearheaded this major sporting initiative. He remarked that this achievement would give a new dimension to expatriate sports and serve as a turning point for the global diaspora community. 

The victorious team will receive a grand reception upon their return to Kuwait by the Kuwait NRI Tug of War Association, Thanima Kuwait office bearers, and members of the community who came forward to welcome the players. Association President Mr. Babuji Batheri and Treasurer Mr. Binoy Varghese extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the team.
