“Successful People Always Have 2 Things On Their Lips Smile & Silence. Smile To Solve The Problems & Silence To Avoid The Problems!”

This is the status message in the Gmail account of Dr. Rajendra C. Mishra who is the Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist & the first Medical Director of YIACO APOLLO Medical center in Kuwait. His stoic countenance and ever smiling face radiate the fact that he practices what he preaches. He quotes - Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny

He enthusiastically shares the details about himself and his family. Though their family hailed from Rajasthan, Dr. Mishra’s father, Shri C.L. Mishra was the Joint President (Finance) in the Birla Group at Bombay. Later the family settled down in Gujarat. Speaking about his family Dr. Rajendra recalls “I have 3 siblings, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Our father was very keen that one of us should devote our life to serving the people and society. While my brothers and sister chose other professions, I chose the medical profession. I do not consider this as a mere profession but a great opportunity to serve the people and the society and am proud that I have been able to fulfill my father’s dream”.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

After completing his graduation from B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad in 1978, he went on to  do his Diploma and Post-graduation in 1982 with honours. He did his Senior Residency in the Civil Hospital, which with its bed capacity of more than 2150 beds is the biggest hospital complex in Asia.

Subsequently, though he was offered lucrative posts in the public sectors, he was not keen to seek an employment in a clinic or hospital, as he had the drive, enthusiasm and courage to take up significant challenges and meet them head on. The choices we make, and the chances we take, determine our destiny.

This resulted in his acquiring a piece of land and setting up multi-speciality Samjuba Hospital in partnership with his class mates, which was a new concept in those days.  This was a very successful venture since the hospital offered a wide range of medical facilities and was first such combined venture in those days when corporate ventures were non-existent and people had to take recourse to government or charitable hospitals for composite care in same complexes.

At that time Dr. Mishra was also a Hon. Assistant Professor in the Medical College. After a few years he partnered in Polyclinic in Rameshwar area where he served the underprivileged segment of the society. In the next 3 years, he partnered with doctors in the Chandramani Hospital in a posh area to also serve the elite of the society. Thereafter, he associated himself with Sanjeevani Multispecialty Hospital in Vastrapur area which was followed by a Satellite unit in Ranchara. All these ventures met with a big success.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

That was the time Apollo Hospital was being set up in Ahmedabad and Dr. Mishra was invited to join the team. Simultaneously, Dr. Mishra got an invitation from Apollo Medical center which was being set up in Kuwait in collaboration with YIACO group.

” You've got to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you've got, and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget. Learn from mistakes, but never regret.

He believes “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

”Finally he says” Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is a beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is life, fight for it. “
